Historic Theatre in the Marche
From the mid-1700s and throughout the 1800s every town in the Marche planned the construction of a theater. This need is certainly cultural but also social and economic.
In 1868, there were 113 theaters in the Marche, small architectural jewels, some of which, still today, testify to the degree of civilization of the small towns of the Marches.
The flourishing of theaters involves a lot of manpower and professionalism in their construction, becoming an important economic driving force. Cities renew their urban layout and the theater often becomes the hub of the new arrangements.
Are several the plants of the theatres, the oldest is the U-shaped, but there were also ovoid, bell-shaped, horseshoe-shaped, with three tiers of boxes and, in the highest part, the gallery.
The interiors of the theaters were decorated with wooden friezes and frescoes, above all in the part of the ceiling and fitted with curtains with exquisite craftsmanship.
Historic Theatre today
Today remain just 71 theatres, very well restored with an ambitious project to recover by the region, at the end of the 90s.
Unfortunately, not all of them have kept their original structure, undergoing various changes due to various vicissitudes.
Those that remain intact are real jewels that testify to the highest level of craftsmanship.
